Day 29: US Open? More Like US Closed...

For most of my life, I played tennis.
But...I wasn't a pro like some people would think..

Most Asian parents make their kid excel in a particular academic subject.
They also made them excel in a hobby of some sort.

When my parents used to go to church, they would usually hear this from other people.

So they thought, I would be interested in playing tennis.

I played tennis sporadically throughout my life. Usually in the summer or when there was some free lessons being given.

I was...decent..
but for some reason, I thought I was good enough to join the High School tennis team..

At first you start as a substitute...or 'sub' for short.
when the coach saw that you were improving, you would move up and actually compete with other players from different schools.

First the coach assessed how well I actually played.

For two years or so...I was always the sub.
It wasn't like I didn't practice, my coach would try to train me so that I was more agile on my feet..

I think he just gave up on me at some point.

I didn't appreciate the comments very much

I would be the one to pick up the balls after each practice.

I would see him and the star players gather together to talk...

I can only imagine what they were saying..
