Day 10: My Mom Loves Me...I Think.

 I love my mom.

But sometimes...she does/says things that I really...really wish she hadn't.

I don't think she was was never like this..Lets start at the beginning.

My mom was born in Inchon, Korea.

When she was 16, she moved over to the states with my family and started a whole new life on Staten Island, NY. My imagination keeps saying that she must have been a really sweet girl..

While I was growing up, she was strict on me, as any Old School Korean mother could be.

In High School, she yelled at me a lot. We didn't have such a good relationship. When are you gonna get a job! You better go to Ivy League school! What is this, a B?!

It wasn't until my Junior year when my relationship with my mom started to change. I'm not sure if it was from living/working on Staten Island or dealing with me (or both) but I noticed that our relationship got better. She didn't nag at me as much.

However our relationship isn't filled with motherly wisdom and love. Like the mom's and daughters you see on those cheesy Lifetime movies.

Its filled with sarcasm and (friendly?) insults.

Bringing my friends over to my home is like a test of friendship. If my mom can insult/offend them and they still talk to me, then I know they are my true friends. (My mom isn't trying to be mean...its just her english isn't that great..)

Once I brought three of my friends to stay over my house in Pennsylvania. They were the first friends I made when I was a freshman. I was so happy to have met them. My mom thought it was a good idea to bring them over..

The following conversation happened in the car ride over.

(Note: My hair was like that at the time. Another failed Perming experiment..more on that later)

Megan, thought it was hilarious...I thought she would never speak to me again

Another time, my childhood friend, Sarah, came over one weekend. I haven't seen her since we were children. It was amazing to see how much she grew...as a woman.

Lets just say, she has much more womanly features than I do...
like comparing oranges to melons..heh

Of course, my mom had to say something about it...that would have been bad enough..

But no...she had to DO something instead...

I'll leave it to your imagination to picture what happened in this moment.
I don't want to draw my mom grabbing someone's melons.
(I mean....the other kind of melon...)
that would be sick.
It was amazing how cool Sarah was with it...

The only person my mom insults is me. I'd like to think that she's only being sarcastic with me...

 I hope she is..

When her sister came over from Hawaii...oh man, its double the fun with the insults.

But...she's not all that bad....She really motivates me as a student.

I don't think she understood how that could be taken to a Design Student

She inspires me...

Gives me advice about love..

Her sarcasm is legendary.

And when my dad hears all this..the only thing he says to me

"You are just like her..." .

Like i'm some unfortunate child...

(To be continued...I'm sure she'll insult me or someone soon...heh.)

  3. Zomg. Moonie. I couldn't help but to laugh my ass off at this post. But not laughing at you. More like laughing at the situations which are drawn in your comics which make it so much better. Omg. Can't handle it. But I'm sorry she can be like that...tough motherly love, perhaps?
