My dad is a silent, support in my life.
He has been since my childhood. He was quiet most of the time, like any old school Korean father. However, I remember some moments where a...quirkier side of him would come out.
I remember when he taught me how to ride a bike, he attached a metal handle on the seat of my bike so that he could hold on to it as I learned to keep my balance.
One day though, as we were practicing in the park...I thought I heard, "Don't let go!"
...
I looked back to say "ok!"
There was my dad..standing on top of the hill.
not behind me..
and he just smiled.
He actually said "I'm letting go!"
Later I asked him why did he let me go on top of a hill..
he thought the added momentum would help me keep my balance...
My dad always tries to be helpful..even if he's a bit tipsy..
Sometimes, my dad likes to tell me interesting tidbits from Korea.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that a whale isn't actually a fish...
My dad is really generous, especially to the neighbors. When one of our neighbors son came by to ask..
This kid always asks before using...I think his parents warned him about us Asians and our thing with honor..respect..etc.
My dad always replies..
He came by almost every weekend, then my dad noticed that the boy caught an eel and then threw it back into the river..(I don't think he knows that not many western folks eat eel)
So when the boy came back the next weekend with this friends..
My dad was ready with a plan..
He made left a bucket next to them and told them that they have to give him the eels they catch.
I wonder what the neighbors must have thought..
more to come soon..I promise there will be more meat to these posts. Been really sick lately.
I'm working on other topics to explore, something more substantial and not just about my life, making you all gigglesnort at the expense of my dignity.
I don't have that much to give in the first place..imma have to start charging.
I hope it works..you'll just have to wait and see!
i love your dad <3
