Day 28: Confessions of an Audio Scrooge..(Caution: May Dampen X-Mas Cheer)

For some reason, I am not a fan of Christmas.
(for my own safety i'm not going to delve too far into the reasons why don't like it)

One of the main reasons is Christmas songs.
bah humbug to them.

I don't know why, but I really can not listen to them.
(maybe its the annoying repetition...)

Which means...I refuse to sing them.

Maybe my disdain for them comes from my elementary school years.

When I was forced to sing these songs.

I think the most annoying song was, The 12 Days of Christmas
the epitome of the annoyance of repetition in a song..
I know that theres some religious significance to this song, but Christmas itself has a religious significance to it.
and with all of this commercialism splattered all over it, people forget, or rather, don't know about that.

In my mind, the song plays like a commercial from K-Mart or something.
and an annoyingly perky woman comes out singing all the gifts that her man got her from K-Mart.

and the worst part is that you have to sing along with her.

She tells you her first gift.

When she gets to the second day of the song, she again tells you what her man gave her.

but for some reason...she has to remind you what he got her the day before.

On the third day, she again has to say what she got.

and...again...tells you what she got in the days prior...

For some reason, he's getting her birds, (On the fourth day, he gets her four calling birds...maybe it really means.."baby, i've been trying to reach you, I can get you better gifts, I swear")

Then on the fifth day she belts out.

Its torture...all the way up to the 11th day...
your voice and sanity...cracking with every verse.
sounding more like a zombie than a happy child.

and the process repeats...for every single day...all the way up to the twelfth day...
the grand freakin finale...

The funny thing is, they always made us sing this at the middle of the production.
Maybe it was so that the audience couldn't leave.

Anyhow, after this song, I remember singing other holiday classics..

Memorable childhood Christmas indeed.

So tell me dear viewer, what Christmas songs you don't particularly like.
or you can yell at me for my beliefs.

bring it on.
