Day 39: Why Vogeltop Bowerbirds Are Pretty Awesome.

After arts/design and music,

my next big interest is the Natural World.

When I have a chance to, I love watching the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, or National Geographic.

The animals that make it to my list of favorites are animals that I think have really cool characteristics or traits, that I think would be pretty neat to have.

One of my favorite animals is the Bowerbird.

During courtship, most male birds of the different species, are brightly colored so that their appearance attracts the female bird.

The male Bowerbird is much different. They are rather drab in appearance.
But what they lack in bright plumage, they make up for in ingenuity.

The Bowerbird is known to build nests and then collect objects that are either the same color or just interesting in general and scatter them around their structure to attract a mate.

Of course, there are different types of bowerbirds.

Theres the well known Satin bowerbird.

Who is known to collect objects that are either blue or yellow.

and their nests are..in the best possible way to describe it..a gate or..tunnel?

They're pretty cool, but the most awesome specie of bowerbird, is the

Vogeltop Bowerbird.

The Vogeltop bowerbird is the most plain out of all the bowerbird species,

however it makes the most elaborate nests.

The Vogeltop makes huts, unlike a loser tunnel

The entrance of the nest is usually propped up by two columns.
and the "front lawn" is carefully cleaned up of debri and covered by moss.

What I think is most interesting of the Vogeltop, is that it collects what it thinks is interesting or what it thinks its potential mate finds interesting.

Which could be anything from dark colored fruits, a certain type flower, etc.

(Its the only bird that can make mushrooms growing on dung look cool)

The items are then carefully arranged in a way that pleases the bowerbird.
(Its also an interior decorator)

And because its plumage is so plain, it can blend in with its surroundings.
Making it hard to find by predators.

So in the end, this bird can make a giant hut,

get the woman,

and survive in the wild.
(Its like an architect and Fabio thrown into the wild, lets see who would survive?)

that makes it pretty damn awesome.
