Day 55: Crystal Moon's (Fail) Methods of Staying Awake

You may have had moments in your life where you had to meet a deadline,

and the hours before its due becomes the hardest.

When coffee, red bull or other various energy drinks start to lose their power over you...

its time to get a little more creative.

I don't believe in power naps. I'm sure that they work for other people. But when I want to take a "10 minute" power nap...

It usually ends up being a 5 hour snooze fest.

So today, I thought i'd share my methods of staying awake.

1) Music
Music is important to me. Without music, I simply cannot function, and depending on the situation, in this case, trying to make a deadline, I like to listen to techno/trance/electronic dance music.

2) Dance

When the crazy beat slowly becomes the same rhythm as slow jazz or R&B in my head, its time to get up and start moving around. Get the blood flowing again. Only caveat is that it uses more energy.

3) Start singing.

Oh no, blood pulse is slowing down. You try to get up but your limbs are reduced to spaghetti noodles. Start to feebly sing out the songs..like a dying cat.

4) Talking

Talking is usually the best method to stay awake. Unfortunately if you don't have someone awake at 4 am on standby or they passed out, you can start talking to yourself..or your eraser.

5) Laughter (Watch random youtube videos)

Laughter is the best medicine right? That means it could also be a great energy pill. Sometimes I go on youtube and look for funny clips. Be warned though, it wastes precious time.

6) Ice

When funny cats aren't enough, its time to pull out heavier machinery. Ice. It may sound like an elementary school trick, but I feel that it actually works. Either put one in your mouth or down your shirt in the back.

7) Please...make yourself uncomfortable

You don't want to do it, but it actually helps a bit. I find that when its cold, I try to not to make myself warm. Helps me stay awake for awhile.

8) Nap

When you're dozing off in a room thats about 30 degree's or so in shorts, Its time to give in and take a nap. However, I only recommend this when you have someone awake, to wake you up at the scheduled time. (Remember, don't make yourself too comfortable..its harder to wake up)

Otherwise..you'll just screw yourself over.
