Day 61: Save 2.50$ or Save Your Toes?

I'm just going to say it bluntly,

I am a cheap ass person.

I try to spend my money when I think its worth it, when I have to, etc.

Basically...I try to save whenever, however, I can.

Its not easy when you're a working student, I knew when I asked my mother for money back when I was a freshman for metrocards and art supplies...

I knew I had to help myself.

and when you work how many hours a week for your own paycheck, you would want to try and save.

But there are some moments...when even I know that being a cheap ass...

is totally ridiculous.

Like today for example.

Since December of last year, the metrocard fare had risen from 2.25 to 2.50.

A quarter may not seem like a lot to you...but..that adds up.

(its going to cost me a base 20 dollars per week to get to class and then the cost of additional trips if needed)

Especially when you have to take public transportation everyday.

According to Google Maps, the distance between South Ferry and Union Square is 2.6 miles.

Taken off Google Maps.
And today, since my class starts at 2, and I got to South Ferry around 10, I thought I would walk to Union Square. Save 2.50$.

It takes a little more than half an hour to walk a straight path on Broadway Ave.
(I don't know why Google Maps is a crooked path..should try it one day)

Its really doable..

on a NICE day.

Today the temperature was in the teens. Its the coldest that New York has been in 50 years.
(Last night it was 1 degree...seriously.)

But I thought "eh its sunny out, it won't be so bad..."

Wrong.

The moment I walked out of the terminal, the wind slapped me in the face...

it was painful

I didn't listen though, I was going to keep going no matter what. I'm not in Alaska or Mongolia,

I'm in New York.

I'm not going to die in this cold.

but I could feel my toes start to get numb.

my fingers into immovable stumps.

Do I have a nose?

I ended up running to Bowling Green.

Taken off Google Maps

While I was on the train, I thought... so I may have spent my precious Metrocard fare.

I still have my fingers and toes.

so to you other cheap ass people out there..

you can be...economical..reasonable..etc.

but don't be ridiculous.
